EXCERPT FROM “21ST CENTURY PSALMS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY WOMAN”

“What if?”

What if the love we profess is gifted with sincerity?

The color of my skin celebrated, the color of your skin the same

Walking through each day eager to reach out to others

Realizing we are all one body

Valuing each soul with absolute forbearance

Looking to the past only for the wisdom it brings

Pressing into the future with clarity of truth

Shaping a world healed from corruption

Plagues of racism feasting on our very existence

Torrential rains of oppression

Volcanic eruptions of the infected pestilence

Floods of broken hearts bleeding in despair

The fragility of our world tinkering on destruction

Molded pastures eating at our conscience because of denied accountability

What if we abandoned the ratings of physical stereotypes?

Applying the acceptance of endless beauty from within

I wonder if God is waiting on us as a united people

Perhaps my home could welcome you to discover what is on your heart

In exchange your forgiveness of the many trespasses

The joy we could share, hope rekindled

Failed systems of racism demolished

Strongholds of fear reduced to a dust chased in the winds

Sweet breezes of renewed vision guiding us to the promises

Promises only a healed people will ever know!
